Intelligent Logistics for Innovative Product Technologies (ILIPT)

The project represents a radical leap for the European automotive industry from the "stock push" and "mass production" thinking of the last century, to a stockless "build-to-order" (BTO) production strategy. This will require the re-invention of the complete automotive value stream from material producers to end consumers of cars, through a cost optimised system delivering what the customer really wants without delay. Within the full framework of the "EU 5-Day Car Initiative", the Integrated Project "Intelligent Logistics for Innovative Product Technologies" focuses on the following. First, product configuration for build-to-order supply chains addressing new product technologies with the tools and management methods. Second, new concepts in delivering flexible production networks addressing collaboration across complete value streams and interoperability of these processes. Finally, novel methods and tools to assess and validate this radical business model for the European automotive industry.

Model-based adaptive Product and Process Engineering

The project MAPPER, supported by EU, will allow for fast and flexible production processes by developing methodologies, an infrastructure and reusable services for participatory engineering in networked production businesses. The practical advantages and the scientific improvement will be demonstrated in three industrial pilot installations. On the basis of the MAPPER results, businesses will be able to change themselves into dynamic networked organizations.

Product oriented manufacturing systems including RFID technology

Future manufacturing will require high flexibility/adaptability and speed with respect to organisation of production and supply-chain management and require an increasing amount of services and inter-company collaboration. These future requirements especially concern control and networking of embedded control systems of manufacturing enterprises at ERP (office), MES (factory control) and production level. Taking these requirements into account and building on top of the successful FP5 Project PABADIS, the PABADIS’PROMISE project extends the idea of distributed control to an innovative architecture which incorporates both resource and product. With the project’s new paradigm ”The Order is the Application” which stipulates a correspondingly innovative control and networking architecture across all three levels, PABADIS’PROMISE will combine European and international forces to provide this architecture allowing European companies to cope with the mentioned future needs.
As designated outcome the PABADIS’PROMISE project will develop a new control architecture based on distributed intelligence, a new manufacturing ontology, a first embedded Real-Time agent platform for control, a new generation of RFID’s, a new generation of field control devices, and building blocks for a new generation of Enterprise Resource Planning systems.
At ERP level new functions together with new interfaces will be developed, enabling direct access from ERP level to the field control system following the new PABADIS’PROMISE ontology, which provides a framework for product and production process description and comparison.

Supply Information Dynamic Exchange and Control by Web-based Interaction Network

Achieve efficient, simple and context-aware SME co-operation with low-level local software requirements and adapted to the typical availability and quality of resource data in very small enterprises, focussed on the exchange of order status changes. As a value added service, an ASP platform will be developed which allows context-aware handling of orders and resource requests.

The Virtual Cost Engineering Studio

Traditionally, organizations used experts to predict the cost from their past experience. Since a few years ago, there is an increased interest among several industries to formalize cost engineering methodologies and improve transparency of cost data projected towards today and future environment. OEMs in Europe have started working on the development of Best Practices in cost engineering for different industries, such as aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding and defence equipments. With the formalization of the cost engineering practices, it is equily important to scientifically train employees in the use of cost engineering techniques and best practices.

Virtual Enterprises for Integrated Industrial Solutions

VERITAS is a Specific Support Actions (SSA) project, combining elements of analysis, fact finding, monitoring and evaluation with trans-national knowledge transfer and take-up related services. Its overall objective is to increase the dynamics of European manufacturing companies by supporting their transformation towards agile enterprises. The ambitious goal is to actively help machine tool companies with high production-related costs to understand and implement the concept of virtual enterprises, enabled through business process orientation, a new business culture and supported by the use of Information Technology, in particular cross-organisation Work Management solutions.

Flexible Change Management in a factory environment

The main objectives of the project are:

  • to develop an innovative, LIVE flexibility modelling and analysis methodology with wide applicability range and
  • to materialize this methodology into an OPEN-INTERFACE SOFTWARE FRAMEWORK able to facilitate lifecycle and change management in production systems and extended enterprises that operate in dynamically changing environments.
